PRD president Miguel Vargas Maldonado said today Tuesday March 6 that he would not be campaigning for his party's presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia, as reported in Hoy. Vargas said he would continue in his institutional role as president of the party. He said that whatever happens from now on is the presidential candidate's own responsibility. Hipolito Mejia recently announced an alliance with former PRD dissident Hatuey de Camps.
Vargas made his announcement while laying a floral wreath at the tomb of the late former PRD leader Jose Francisco Pena Gomez on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Pena Gomez, who would have been 75 today.
