According to the Director of Prisons, Mario Acosta, one of the six inmates pardoned on 27 February by President Leonel Fernandez died on Saturday, reports Hoy. Salvador Plasencia Hernandez, aged 49, who had been diagnosed with HIV and throat cancer and was in the Sanchez Ramirez prison in Cotui for forgery and fraud.
Plasencia Hernandez had been recommended for a pardon due to his illness and the fact that he had completed two years and five months of his sentence.
Plasencia Hernandez is the second inmate to die after being proposed for a pardon. The first died one day before the final list was presented.
