As part of the International Women's Day celebrations today, Thursday March 8, President Leonel Fernandez will award the Medal of Merit to several women in recognition of their achievements in diverse areas of politics, society and the economy. He will also award the Order of Merit Duarte, Sanchez and Mella, Grand Silver Cross, to Gladys Gutierrez, the first Secretary of State for Women. The women to be awarded these distinctions are Santa Maria Perez Carrasco, Isabel Mercedes Tezanos D'Acosta Gomez, Tomasina Altagracia Moreaux de Nouel, Ivonne Altagracia Arias Cornielle, Batiz Letania Lora Pena, Norma Violeta Martinez Ruiz, Cristina Laura Aguiar Quezada, Fior Miladys Calcano, Carmen Dignorah Coronado and Damaris Aleiny Encarnacion Navarro.
