Speaking on the campaign trail in Moca on Saturday, PRD presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia declared that the agricultural sector is in total bankruptcy as a result of government neglect and massive imports of agricultural products.
The former President said that the government owed millions in dollars to the agricultural sector. Mejia promised to make available RD$1 billion to the Agricultural Bank for capitalization if elected President. In a press release, Mejia, whose educational and professional background is farming-related, committed to strengthening the sector and increasing rice production and means for reasonable prices and funding for producers.
