On the campaign trail, PRD vice presidential candidate Luis Abinader said Dominicans are clamoring for change. He said that the political activism of Leonel Fernandez and the choice of First Lady Margarita Cedeno for vice president "underestimate the intelligence of Dominicans to believe that the highest representatives of continuity can be both the promoters of change demanded by the Dominican society."
Abinader said that Fernandez himself has spearheaded the recent agreements of the PLD with political allies.
He added that Fernandez was perceived as the second worst president in Latin America, according to the latest Latin Barometer assessment.
