Men's World Volleyball Tournament in Santo Domingo
For the first time ever, this June the FIVB Men's Volleyball World League 2012 Championship will be held in Santo Domingo. The tournament brings some of the best men's volleyball in the world to the DR's capital city.
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced that from 15 to 17 June, Pool A of the FIVB Volleyball World League 2012 would be staged at the Volleyball Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The leading annual men's volleyball tournament was originally due to be held at the new Havana Sports City Coliseum but it will not be finished in time.
For the first time in the history of the event, which dates back to 1990, all four teams in each pool will be playing a host city on a weekend. Each country will take turns to host in their respective pools all four teams, and fans everywhere will be closely following the volleyball odds when this takes place.
In Santo Domingo, Cuba will now face defending champions Russia, Serbia and Japan - with the support of both NORCECA and the Volleyball Federation of Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic's men's team will not be competing in the event, only teams from Cuba, Russia, Serbia and Japan. The schedule of the other events for the 23rd World League championships can be followed at:
