The bishops of the Dominican Republic and Haiti will meet today at the headquarters of the Dominican Council of Bishops in order to analyze various issues, which include the presence of Haitians in Dominican territory, a situation that causes concern, in the words of Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez.

Diario Libre reports that the Archbishop of Santo Domingo said that both the Church and the government have been sending help to Haiti and they expect to make a second contribution to the bishops of Haiti.

According to some reports, the bishops of the Dominican Republic want to learn what is really going on in Haiti now. "Simply put, this is a meeting, they asked for a single day, originally it was thought to be a two-day affair, but because of the internal situation in Haiti they prefer to return there as soon as possible, which we understand perfectly," said Lopez Rodriguez. The cardinal said that it is important to determine the reality of what is happening with regard to the Haitian situation, in order to find solid solutions.
