Young Dominicans and environmental campaigners will meet outside the National Congress this afternoon, Wednesday, 14 March to ask the government to stop any military construction on Saona Island, under the slogan, "Saona is not for sale."
The protest is due to start at 4pm, and according to Johan Balbuena, Saona Island is a national park due to its natural beauty, and should not be affected by any type of military construction under the guise of fighting drug trafficking.
The proposed improvements to the Navy facilities in Saona have received the backing of the Navy, the Ministry of Environment, and the leading tourism organizations in La Romana and Bayahibe.
