Jose Pimentel, a US citizen of Dominican origin who is accused of planning terrorist attacks in New York declared on Tuesday, 13 March that he was not guilty of the charges made against him.
Pimentel was arrested last November, after having been under surveillance for two years, and had recently converted to Islam. He is facing life imprisonment if convicted of the charges that include conspiring to make a bomb for terrorist use and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an attack.
New York authorities have referred to Pimentel as a 'lone wolf' who learnt to make bombs thanks to an Al Qaeda magazine on the Internet.
