According to the Ministry of Public Health, 321 people have been cured of tuberculosis in the Dominican Republic over the last seven years, reducing the number of deaths resulting from the illness by 76.7%. In 2004 there were 422 deaths, whereas from 2205 to 2011 there were only 101 deaths,
The health authorities pointed out that this significant decrease was due to the effectiveness of preventive programs throughout the country that have led to a much higher successful treatment rate.
