According to a poll by Spanish company Insight, PLD presidential candidate Danilo Medina will receive 49.8% in the 20 May elections while Hipolito Mejia, the PRD candidate, would receive 42.6%.
The figure for Medina would be increased by 1.3% including the votes for the PRSC.
Luis Rojo, representing the polling company, said that the research was carried out from 5-9 March with a sample of 1200 people.
He said that Guillermo Moreno from the Alliance party would receive 1.4% of the vote and the rest of the candidates combined would get 2.2%.
The results also showed that 3.3% would not vote and 2.3% are undecided. 77.3% of voters think that the situation in the country has improved over the last year, while 38.6% think it will improve over the next year, 34.6% said it would not improve and 18.8% think it will stay the same.
49.2% think that Medina will win the election and 44.1% think that Mejia will win.
