El Dia reports that a dead humpback whale was sighted in the bay in Puerto Plata yesterday evening, Thursday, 15 March. It was originally spotted earlier in the day in front of the Playa Dorada tourist resort, from where it was towed out to sea so that the smell of decay would not affect the tourists on the beach.
However the current then carried the whale carcass back into shore but this time to the Malecon seafront avenue in the city of Puerto Plata where a large crowd has gathered to look at it.
