President Leonel Fernandez is challenging "anyone" to compete with him when it comes to roads built in the Dominican Republic. On a tour of the progress made on the Coral Expressway that will link San Pedro de Macoris and Punta Cana, Fernandez mentioned that the accomplishments of his three terms in government included the Bani-San Cristobal, 15 de Azua-San Juan de la Maguana, San Juan-Las Matas de Farfan, Las Matas de Farfan-Elias Pina, San Juan-Barahona, Circunvalacion de Santiago, San Francisco-Nagua, Bulevar del Atlantico (Samana), Casabito-Constanza, Jarabacoa-Rio Constanza. President Leonel Fernandez made the comments when touring the US$400 million expressway project. The construction is financed by the Brazilian export bank and built by Odebrecht. The highway is scheduled for completion by July 2012. The expressway includes a 14km bypass outside of La Romana, a new bridge over Chavon River, and the Coral stretch of 70kms.
