Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD) director Eddy Martinez has announced that Indian technology company Lanco Global Systems will be operating from the Las Americas Technology Institute (ITLA).

The information systems company will offer a range of professional services to the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The company's regional headquarters is in Puerto Rico. From its operations center in the DR, it will now offer engineering services, infrastructure, consulting, training, application management and other technical resources and plans to employ Dominican engineers for this purpose.

The India-based company said the plan is to invest US$3 million during the first phase, creating 100 direct jobs in the first four years.

Company spokesman in the DR, Enrique Grau Pelegri said bilingual engineers and technicians in the DR would be trained and certified by Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP as part of the initiatives by LGS Solution Academy.

Work is expected to start on 9 April with an intensive 13-week training for 150 candidates, of which 50 will be admitted this year as employees of LGS Caribbean in Puerto Rico.

The LGS Dominicana team, which will be part of Lanco Global Systems Caribbean, will operate in coordination with software engineering division LGS Global Ltd., which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

LGS Global is a public company, serving on the stock exchange, based in Hyderabad, India, with operations in Puerto Rico, the US, India and China, and a presence in 60 countries through the corporate group's affiliate offices in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

The plan is for technology project implementations and technical support, for both the public and private sectors, to be overseen from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic serving the 35 countries that make up the Caribbean region.
