Avoid ordering lobster at restaurants or purchasing it in seafood shops. The seasonal ban on the sale of lobsters is now on. The ban is in force from 1 March to 30 June. Decree 119-12 orders a ban on the sale of lobsters for the period including the varieties known locally as: langosta, langosta pinta (langostinos), langosta de piedra and mama langosta. The ban prohibits food stores from stocking locally caught lobster during the period. The Dominican Fishing and Agricultural Council (Codopesca) monitors the sale of lobsters.
The ban is in force to give lobsters time for breeding. The ban does not prohibit lobster imports.
