Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said during a meeting with the PRSC members in La Romana yesterday, Sunday 18 March, that the Dominican expat vote could decide the 2012 presidential election. Polls show both candidates running head to head, with Danilo Medina of the ruling PLD maintaining a slight lead. But leading polls forecast it is likely there will be a second round as neither of the candidates will convince 50%+ 1 of the voters to favor them.

Morales Troncoso held a meeting yesterday, Sunday 18 March with the Dominican-American mayor of Lawrence, Massachusetts, William Lantigua and highlighted the importance of the expat vote. He said that more than 360,000 Dominicans are registered to vote abroad, including 192,000 in the United States and Canada districts.
