In the scramble to reduce the margin of the very tightly fought 2012 presidential election, the PRD candidate, former President Hipolito Mejia has amply publicized his alliance with La Altagracia province PRSC senator Amable Aristy Castro. Aristy Castro was the PRSC candidate in the 2008 presidential election, winning 4.6% of the vote. He ran a campaign where he was known for throwing salami, chickens and money to poor people who congregated on his route.

During a ceremony announcing the alliance, Aristy Castro said that 97% of the PRSC favors the alliance with the PRD.

PRSC party president, Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso has registered the official alliance of the PRSC with the PLD, backing the Danilo Medina candidacy. Morales Troncoso served as Vice President of the Republic when the PRSC was the leading political party during the Balaguer administrations.

Juan Aristides Taveras Guzman, Pedro Breton, Tito Hernandez, Hector Rodriguez Pimentel and Alexis Joaquin Castillo, among others, took part in the event. The PRD delegation was headed by Cesar Cedeno and Orlando Jorge Mera, Rafael Subervi Bonilla and Emmanuel Esquea Guerrero, as reported in El Dia.
