The Sharkatron team from the Carol Morgan School and two public schools (Politecnico Ana Lillians Miranda of Bani and Liceo Francisco Gregorio Billini), thirty 7th to 12th grade students competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) in Orlando, Florida returned home having gained third place among first time competitors and 11th overall in the international competition. The students constructed a robot that plays basketball. The First Team Drift 4091 broke a record going from the semifinals to obtain third place, unprecedented for a novice international team. The event was sponsored by the inventor and owner of the Segway personal transporter. The robotics competition is highly regarded as an event that encourages collaboration and inventiveness. 64 robots from around the world participated in the Rebound Rumble competition.

The captain of the Dominican team was Enrique Espaillat Bonelly, accompanied by Rafael Trujillo, Jesus Christian and Seth Haskell. Others with outstanding participation in the construction of the robot were Edward Ghattas, Javier Heinsen, Pablo Capollo, Franklyn Valdez, Carlos Leon, Konrad Obritzhouser, Alfonso Logrono, Andres Casasnovas, Jacob Lalo, Jorge Requena, Renato Espinal, Pedro Dantas, Jahaan Saini, Randall Lama, Francis Beltre and Yonantan Nolasco. Backing the team were the business advisors who secured the funding for the initiative, led by Montserrat Tarrago. The other team members were Luis Felipe Lama, Fernando Pou, Catalina Marranzini, Andrea and Camila Dauhajre, Gustavo Ariza, Eduardo Pellerano, Andres Brandt, Yvonne Sierra, Fabiola Guzman and Arianny Luna.

The team had the backing of Carol Morgan teachers Osiris Villacampa, Micah Hall, Abraham Dauhajre, Eric Periche, Frederick Eman Zade, Lourdes Bonelly and Vielka Morales, and university professors Irvin Cedeno of INTEC, Romula Reyes and Ramon Abreu of INFOTEP and Rafael Vargas of ITLA.
