Al Horford has been voted the Best Athlete of the Year by the Santo Domingo Sports Writers Association. The 26-year old, 6'10 basketball player with the NBA Atlanta Hawks received the award at a ceremony at the Hotel Embajador on Sunday, 18 March. Horford represented the Dominican Republic in the Olympic qualifier event in Argentina, where the DR finished third. In December, he married the Dominican Republic's only winner of Miss Universe, Amelia Vega.
