The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) is calling for greater connectivity through the use of an expanded fiber optic network that will supply broadband access to communities throughout the country. According to David Perez Taveras, the head of Indotel, the institute is going forward with a program called "Fiber Optic Capillaries" by means of a private-public alliance. The objective is to get fiber optics installed natiownide.
The project, according to the Listin Diario, is being pushed by the World Bank that is said to be willing to finance it in other islands and Haiti in order to obtain an interconnection that will benefit all users. There will be an international tender for the interconnection.
