The Ministry of Public Works has announced that the overpasses at Manoguayabo and Monumental avenues with Duarte Highway will be inaugurated in April and May. The Ministries says drivers will have limited access to the new crossovers while Public Works does some work underneath.
Diario Libre says that this is the second time that the inauguration of the overpasses has been delayed. The overpass at Monumental Avenue will be available for use, although its inauguration will take place in April.
The overpasses are part of the Duarte Corridor roadway project that is designed to ease traffic coming in and out of the National District by way of the Duarte Highway. The project includes the overpasses on John F. Kennedy Avenue at the intersections of Dr. Defillo and Nunez de Caceres streets, and the underpasses on 27 February Avenue at Carmen Mendoza de Cornielle, Dr. Defillo and Nunez de Caceres streets. Also included are the overpass at Ortega y Gasset and 27 February avenues; the tunnel that connects 27 February Avenue with the university area, and over in East Santo Domingo, the Charles De Gaulle Avenue overpass.
The total cost of the project was said to be about US$200 million, and is financed primarily with funds from the Brazilian export bank, with construction responsibility of Odebrecht and the Brazilian company's Dominican partners.
