The Fernandez government has collected in January of this year RD$3.58 billion more than in the same period last year. The total amount collected by the Department of Taxes (DGII) was RD$21.06 billion. The property tax and the selective petrol tax were those that provided the greatest part of the collections of the month. Income from property taxes is that which represents the greatest percentage of increase. It went from RD$753 million last January to RD$1.27 billion in January 2012, which represents an increase of RD$525 million and a percentage jump of 69.7%. In the meantime, the collection of the specific tax on petrol grew by 67.6%, going from RD$1.22 billion to RD$2.05 billion. This is an absolute increase of RD$827 million. The income from the ITBIS (the Dominican version of the VAT) grew by 5.8%, growing from RD$4.30 billion to RD$4.98 billion.
