The Dominican Republic has exported 21,954 tons of food products to Venezuela, including black beans, pastas, and animal feed. But, as reported in El Dia, most of the black beans could have been imported for subsequent export. The president of the Comite Agropecuario Unitario de San Juan, Manuel Matos complained that "most of the black beans exported to Venezuela are not produced in the country," as reported in El Dia.

The total exported would be from the end of 2010 to March 2012 and is equivalent to making a payment of US$33.6 million on the Dominican debt with Venezuela for oil imports.

The statistics were provided to El Dia by the Office for the Negotiations of the Payment of the PetroCaribe Debt, located at the Ministry of Hacienda.

The payment mechanism allows for compensating the debt with bills for export of national products with oil import bills. That is for every US$100 dollars of exported goods are equal to US$100 dollars of imported fuel. The office explains that this reduces the financial pressure for the country to secure hard currency to pay the debt.

The ambassador of Venezuela in the DR, Alfredo Murgas Rivas told El Dia that the DR has been meeting its obligations with the PetroCaribe debt.
