The International Police (Interpol) issued an arrest warrant on Monday against the former Prime Minister of the Turks & Caicos Islands Michael Misick who is under investigation by British authorities for corruption. He is thought to be hiding in the Dominican Republic.

Misick resigned in 2009 as a result of a corruption scandal. He is accused of money laundering and bribery in the British territory that is north of Puerto Plata.

This year Queen Elizabeth II appointed Gordon Wetherhall as the person in charge of the islands for the next two years, following the recommendations of the investigative commission that asked for the arrest warrant against the former minister.

According to the Listin Diario, "over the past few months, Misick has been given every opportunity to turn himself in voluntarily in for questioning. But in spite of assurances from his people that he would appear, he has failed to do so."

The whereabouts of Misick are unknown, but it is thought that he might be in the Dominican Republic.
