The Chamber of Deputies fast-tracked a bill that would enable residents to import surveillance cameras duty free. The legislation applies to both residential and commercial equipment. The president of the Chamber Abel Martinez said the bill seeks to encourage locals to purchase the equipment so as to discourage crime. He said the bill is an initiative by the Special Committee for Public Safety created a few months ago to address crime.
The bill was introduced by Congressman Orlando Espinosa (PLD-San Cristobal) and merged with another initiative sent to the House for the Senate.
