The Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra has inaugurated new parking facilities equipped with the latest technology for 500 vehicles over an area of 16,473 square meters. The parking building will serve the university's Santo Tomas de Aquino campus in Santo Domingo.
The cost of the "smart" parking building was RD$255,899,323, including the power station, security installations and all furnishings.
Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez blessed the new parking lot, which has 22 high-definition cameras and radio-frequency sensors connected to a 24/7 monitoring system. It also has state-of-the-art fire detectors and warnings, alarms and emergency communication using an IP connection.
Rector of the university, Monsignor Agripino Nunez proudly announced that with the 500 new spaces, the Santo Tomas de Aquino campus now has 1,805 parking spaces. The PUCMM is the largest private university in the Dominican Republic.
The cost of the state-of-the-art parking building contrasts with the one installed by the government at state university UASD and inaugurated in May by the President reportedly for 1,248 spaces at a cost of RD$1 billion. The state university parking was not able to go into operation for months due to multiple construction defects, according to the UASD rector.
