There are fights worth fighting, and the neighborhood group of Buenos Aires Mirador residential community was able to stop the installation of a tower they suspected would cause health hazards. Protests by the Prol. Independencia neighborhood group were heard by Celso Marranzini, head of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), which oversees the operation of the Empresa de Generacion Hidroelectrica Dominicana (Egehid) that was building the tower. It would have been located at Km. 9.5 of the Sanchez highway.
EGEhid is now considering two alternatives: one that would involve moving the tower to the CDEEE operations center that is located between Luperon and Isabel Aguiar Avenues and another that would require making a new design in order to link to the corporate building at Romulo Betancourt avenue.
Magycorp, S.A. is responsible for the installation of the infrastructure that is intended to receive hydro-meteorological information to be transmitted to the emergency services in real time as a way of preventing emergency situations.
