Yesterday, Tuesday 20 March, in Santiago, the Civil Defense corps and firefighters expressed their concern about the continual traffic accidents in the province causing deaths and injuries, and they attributed the problem to drink driving and speeding by the drivers, most of whom were young
Francisco Arias, deputy national director of the Civil Defense based in Santiago and Colonel Ricardo Rosario, head of the local firefighters, said that very often members of their organizations had to rescue people under the effects of alcohol, which reflected on society as a whole.
This latest expression of concern came in response to the deaths of seven people on 27 Febrero Avenue in Santiago on Sunday morning, and the two heads of the local emergency services lamented the loss of life, especially amongst those so young.
Listin Diario quotes Juan Marte, president of the National Centre of Transport Workers, who called for a campaign against drunk driving.
