Scroll down a bit to watch the video.

He better hope the guy doesn't come back for the money that's taped under the drawer.

Andy lived for some months in Sosua going back about 2 years ago.
Anyone else have a chance to meet him?

I've watched a bunch of videos sticking a pin in my nut sack so I don't fall asleep out of boredom....he could get his messages across in a minute instead of 10-15 minutes.

While I respect his way of travel, he deserved what he got:

1. Don't go on the internet saying you wear shorts with a hidden money pocket.

2. The taping money to the underside of a drawer, yup a good idea but now every landron will look there if they go on the internet.

3. Don't go on the internet being the king of a foreign culture....you will end up like he did.

That Can happen anywhere. Not sure why he needed 15min (Agree w/ Tony) Also what is he going on about being afraid? Does he think the thieves are gonna run down to the internet cafe and look for a video of him talking about the robbery?

He has been to all these places yet he went on and on about how DR is the worst and most dangerous place in the world. Come visit my neighborhood. Sheesh.

Personally, I don't believe his claims. Too many discrepancies in his reporting of the details.

How true.

The 1st assailant climbs over two walls and abarbed wire fence onto his balcony with just basketball shorts on and a broken Presidente bottle in one hand, leaving him only one hand to make the climbs with.

The assailant then demands money from the author who is standing on the other side of the bed in only a towel. He went through all kinds of pains to describe how he had so cleverly hidden his loot, so where'd he get the $6,000RD to give to the robber? The towel?

The author magically makes it out to the hallway and starts screaming "ayudame!", whereupon a drunk guy emerges from the room next door and starts smacking him around. He doesn't strike back because he doesn't want the situation to "escalate out of control" and now he's got a shiner, bruised ribs and a swollen toe. The shit escalated out of control as soon as the guy took a swing at him. I don't get that logic.

...and who the fuck is "Jennifer" and why did he know her and none of the other principles and why was she in the room next door with the drunk guy?????

Now they're all in a "street gang" and the police are in cahoots. Then he states that the Dominican Republic is strictly a sex tourism destination and that "the Dominican Race is violent, etc., etc. and he needed to be escorted out of town. Now he's noticing Gringo's (first he said Whites) are being attacked with regularity.

Miraculously his video camera and laptop weren't even touched.

How many "Dominican street gangs" rent rooms in Gringo hotels? This must have been the first.

We've got a better chance getting the truth out of "Jennifer" and her chulo.

...and who the fuck is "Jennifer" and why did he know her
She's the puta he tried to avoid paying the originally agreed upon amount.

The assailant then demands money from the author

He's the chulo who returned with the puta after she explained the above to him

The author magically makes it out to the hallway and starts screaming "ayudame!", whereupon [-]a drunk guy emerges from the room next door and[/-] the chulo starts smacking him around.

Seems the more plausible explanation.

Miraculously his video camera and laptop weren't even touched.

Interesting, isn't it? Somebody came to rob him, but didn't rob him?

We've got a better chance getting the truth out of "Jennifer"

She can probably be found on the Malecon looking for her next trick.

Yeah, the guy's diatribe about police corruption, the culture of violence and his assertion at the end that Dominicans are a "confused race" tell me exactly how he got his ass beat up.

What I'm wondering is...why didn't they stomp this asshole out in the other 89 countries?

Don't know why these guys who are spending so much time in country, tend to only say negative things about the place (if that are their feelings, they should go someplace else), his story does seem a bit far fetched. But there always seems to be that one guy that all these things happen to, yet there are thousand of ex-pats that are their neighbors and they never have the same negative experiences, go figure

This dude is really shook still it's so obvious. He's way over the top with talking about how the acceptance level and desire to harm others. Let's be real, most Dominicans like anyone else would rather an easy theft than to have to inflict physical harm on someone. Some of us would maybe feel differently if the incident was fresh in our own minds though instead of watching him tell it.

Because the other countries don't dress and act like a "inner city" gang in the United States. Only the Dominicans.:rofl: Yeah there's more to this story.

I think he's really mad because they don't celebrate Christopher Columbus's "discovery".

Bingo! Lots of people (myself included) take offense when people claim columbus discovered us. Columbus is a complete douche IMHO who lead to the destruction of Native cultures and populations. Him being shocked that not all of the locals don't think of columbus as a deity might of gotten him that slap on the face.

Columbus wasn't even a good sailor. 8000 miles off-course in the wrong direction? Why the fuck do we (in the U.S., anyway) celebrate a 'discovery' that was not only accidental, but the result of complete incompetence?

If he wasn't 400 years dead that motherfucker would still be looking for India.

People in the US celebrate it since him "discovering" the US made it possible for all of the people struggling with taxes and the freedom to practice their religion to come here...... Lol, ask a Native American if they celebrate being "discovered". Actually don't, we blame him for bringing over the white people who infected us with diseases that wiped out a good share of our population, stole our land and on and on....In Jamaica they tag/spray paint the heck out of his statue even though their original Native population is now completely gone.

That's the issue for me. Fresh or not, the "facts" just don't make sense. I get the impression that he's making the story up as he goes along. And, if he did practice a statement, he doesn't sound like he's sticking to the script.

It does sound like there is a whole lot more to the story that isn't said. Though, he probably did get robbed and some crazy shit happened. He looked like he was still freaked out about it, so that also tends to make it difficult to tell a story that isn't 100% accurate or where he is trying to leave out some parts of the story, to protect himself and what was going on.

......... he is trying to leave out some parts of the story, to protect himself and what was going on.

This I absolutely believe. However, I just can't quite accept that whoever robbed him, didn't take the computer or camcorder. I don't quite recall offhand, but I'm pretty sure he mentioned that he was on his computer when the ladrone appeared in his room, but the ladrone didn't think to take it.

There could very well be a perfect explanation for everything, but he'd have to do a hell of alot bette explaining than he's done to get me to believe it, not that I matter.

Lol, he should get an award for figuring out that someone that earns $100 a day might be higher up the ladder than someone earning $5-$10 a day. At least the video was not another 15 minutes snore fest with 30 seconds of good content.

My main interest in Luperon is that it has a good hurricane-hole of a harbor; I can see myself dropping anchor and staying there a while. So I take heart in one bit of Andy's sad, sad story - there are "boom-boom girls" in Luperon, too. (I wouldn't care to spend much time anchored out in Sosua Bay.)

Yeah, and according to this guy the assailant had so much trouble figuring out a way to get back down ... cuz you know ... ditching the bottle (already accomplished his goal) and stuffing the money in his mouth and climbing down was waaayyy too complicated.

But wait, didn't he also say the guy dropped the money at some point?

And why did the guy next door start smacking him around for no reason ... if he was gonna do that (and then he had his boys with him), you think they wouldn't have taken the next step and went thru all the shit in his room while they were at it?

And what was the point of running out and screaming "ayudame" when he says himself the cops aint showing up. Who was he exepecting help from and help from WHAT exactly? He'd accomplished his stated goal of having the first assailant be happy to leave with some pesos and not hurt him, what the fuck is he running around the hallway screaming for????

I swear the more I think about the pieces of this puzzle the more it sounds like a gay-sankie-gone-bad story. Dude running around the hallway buck necked squealing like a pig and shit....

That's what i think also. The guy seems to avoid some thoughts in his head while describing the events. I would say some are true, some are half-true and some are bs-made. He also looked like he's still in shock and i've got the feeling that he's gonna soon regrets some of his statements in this video when he cooled-down...
