View Full Version : Solidarity has delivered RD$34 billion in aid

The Solidarity Card, a government welfare subsidy, has provided more than RD$34 billion in aid to 893,000 families over the past seven years, according to the "Executive summary of the results of the Payment of Social Subsidies and the Network of Social Supply". The greatest part of the subsidy has gone to the "Food is First" programs, where over RD$19 billion was spent. Bonogas, a program that provides recipients with free propane cooking fuel, received funding of over RD$6.7 billion, and the "schooling incentive" program received RD$3 billion. Even the National Police contingent known as the Preventive Police and the Navy personnel received payments that totaled over RD$400 million. There are in excess of 3,300 markets, 753 propane stations, 365 offices for paying electricity bills and other establishments cooperating with the programs.
