The Dominican Association of Electronic Security Companies (ADESE) favors the approval of a bill aimed at exonerating electronic surveillance equipment, including video cameras, from duties. But engineer Cesar Fondeur, president of the organization, says that the Senate needs to make changes to the bill so that it is adaptable to the rapidly changing industry, as reported in Diario Libre. The deputies fast-tracked the bill in two readings yesterday, Wednesday 21 March. Fondeur says that the equipment mentioned in the bill is now obsolete. Moreover, Fondeur criticized the fact that the bill opens imports to anyone. "If anyone can import a surveillance camera, in whose hands will private security be?" he asks. He would like the bill to specify who is authorized to import the equipment.
