Three women are running for Vice President in the 2012 presidential elections: First Lady Margarita Cedeno on the ruling PLD party ticket with Danilo Medina, Scherezada (Chiqui) Vicioso, a poet and women's affairs director at the Ministry of Foreign Relations, on the ticket with minority party Alianza Pais's Guillermo Moreno, and sociologist Luz Maria Abreu with Alianza por la Democracia candidate Max Puig.
Six political parties presented candidates for the election by the deadline.
Other candidates are Hipolito Mejia and Luis Abinader (PRD) and Julian Serulle for the Frente Amplio, with Fidel Santana. Eduardo Estrella (DxC) is running with education businessman Fauntly Garrido for Vice President.
