According to El Dia, the 807.4 kilos of cocaine confiscated by the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) at the port of Caucedo on 14 March belonged to a notorious drug trafficker, Joaquin Guzman Loera (Capo Guzman) from the Mexican Sinaloa cartel.
As a result, last week saw the arrest of two Mexicans who the authorities are linking to the drugs, which were bound for the Spanish port of Valencia.
Nine Dominicans were originally arrested including the second lieutenant of the frigate, Sandy de Leon Melendez and civilians Alejandro Antonio Vizcaino, Angel Domingo Jimenez, Ruben Ezequiel Gabriel Castillo, Juan Carlos Mojica and Wascar Alberto Familia Sanchez, as well as siblings Jose Miguel and Johanna Alcantara Roa.
