Be sure to take precautions driving and getting to work. The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is saying that a new frontal system is approaching the country from the east and should begin to affect local weather conditions this afternoon. The rains are expected to fall in the northwest, which needs them, as well as the north, northeast and the Central Mountains. The rains will be accompanied by some wind gusts and occasional thunder and lightning. Onamet is forecasting that rains, which will continue over practically all of the country, will be especially copious and heavy in the northwest and north of the country.
The recent rains are having a detrimental effect on over 600,000 people still living in shelters in Haiti. Health and public safety officials there are very worried about the possible consequences of more rains.
