Dozens of residents from the Villa Mercedes area of San Cristobal were shot at and stoned by police during a protest in demand of road repairs.
The demonstrators burned tires and tree trunks, threw garbage, broke bottles and said that they would no longer put up with the dust on the streets, the potholes and the mud when it rained.
El Dia reports that the inhabitants of Villa Mercedes have been waiting for the roads to be fixed for more than four years with no response from anyone. They say that the Ministry of Public Works had only fixed the main street but that dozens of other roads are progressively deteriorating.
