Seven universities have signed up for a program that will provide professional study options as well as technical training for inmates at the country's correctional and rehabilitation centers. The project was signed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Radhames Jimenez Pena and the rectors of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado; Iberoamericana (Unibe), Julio Amado Castanos Guzman and the vice-rector of the O&M University, Martha del Pozo. These institutions will also encourage their students to take on research projects on issues relating to the penitentiary system. The universities will also give National Penitentiary School and the Model of Penitentiary Management staff the opportunity to study undergraduate courses as well as in-service training.
