An officer was rewarded and commended for turning down a bribe from drug traffickers who offered him RD$500,000 at the Caucedo Multi-Modal Port in Boca Chica. Air Force second lieutenant Daniel Jose Farfan Medrano stopped three men in a truck during the early hours of 14 March at the Caucedo Multi-Modal Port facility. The men are said to have offered the above-mentioned sum in return for the officer letting them leave, after it was discovered that they were responsible for 807 kilos of cocaine that was to be shipped to Spain. "For standing firm and carrying out the arrest, moments later it was possible to seize the 807 kilos of cocaine," said Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo, head of the National Drug Control Department (DNCD). The commander of the Specialized Corps of Port Security (CESEP), General Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, called on the judges to punish the persons responsible for the cocaine shipment, one of the largest seized so far this year. The officer was awarded 10 minimum salaries by the DNCD and received a letter of praise from the CESEP as well as another similar monetary award, as reported in Listin Diario.
