The Consorcio Energetico Punta Cana-Macao, S. A., the company that supplies electricity to the Punta Cana-Bavaro area, has won the tender for the Aster Cable TV company. The company will be sold to the power utility for US$27 million. Aster was part of assets confiscated from the collapsed Baninter financial group in 2003. The tender was held on 23 February 2012, with bids from the following companies: Compania Dominicana de Telefonos, Tricom, Wind Telecom and the winning Consorcio Energetico Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM).
The results were announced yesterday, Thursday, 27 March in the presence of two members of the Monetary Board, the controller of the Central Bank, a representative of the Superintendence of Banks, two from the General Controller office, two from Aster and the manager of the Central Bank, as reported in El Caribe.
