The National Police has opened a new station in Las Galeras in response to a surge in development and tourism in the area, creating the need for the new facility. The staff received communication equipment, and a motorcycle.
Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, the head of the National Police, inaugurated the new station yesterday, Thursday, 29 March. Also attending was senator for Samana, Prim Pujals. Speaking at the inaugural, Polanco Gomez said that the tourism development is now guaranteed by the security to be provided by police agents stationed there.
The new police station follows several others that have recently opened across the Dominican Republic, including La Isabela, Moca, San Jose de Ocoa and Miches.
