Major General Jose Polanco Gomez celebrated police officer Katy Pamela Wilson's new IBF super bantamweight title yesterday, Thursday 29, March, following her victory on Saturday, 24 March. Wilson (15-1, 9 KOs) won the championship by outpointing defending champion Ada Velez (20-4-3, 6 KOs) of Puerto Rico at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo. Fightnews.com reports: "The lanky Dominican girl used her reach advantage and polished skills to neutralize the bull-like rushes of the gritty Velez, picking her shots and piling up points."
As reported in El Caribe, Katy dedicated her win to the Dominican people and President Leonel Fernandez. She is the third Dominican to win a world championship.
