The authorities at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo have once again closed the university, suspending classes due to student-led disturbances. The closure lasted from 2pm yesterday, Monday, 2 April until 7am today as a group of masked protestors, allegedly demonstrating about the university's role in the administration of the new cancer hospital being built on university grounds, took over the center of the campus. An article in Diario Libre says that they threw refuse on the streets impeding vehicular movement. The University Council met to discuss, among other items, the Presidential Decree on the hospital, which the university authorities believe they should administer.
