Alfredo Echevarria Diaz (Gallito) and/or Luis Sabar Diaz (Cama Tagua), who is accused of 16 murders, was apprehended yesterday, Monday, 2 April, four months after he staged a spectacular escape from custody at the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Nueva in the National District. The authorities said that the fugitive committed five contract killings while on the run. Director of Prisons Mario Acosta told Diario Libre reporters that on 15 December 2011, the convicted criminal, facing 30 years in jail, escaped while getting out of the vehicle that had taken him to the courthouse in Ciudad Nueva, jumped over a wall and got on a motorcycle that was apparently waiting for him. He had been accused of killing Frank de Jesus Felix on 1 December 2010. Yesterday's arrest took place in Barahona.
