In the Dominican Republic, holidays are taken seriously. The most serious of them all is Easter, when most companies close their doors, even major stores, for rest, relaxation and spiritual contemplation. Years back, only Good Friday was taken off, but now gradually the holiday has moved to Thursday, and many businesses are closed as of noon on Wednesday.
