President Leonel Fernandez inaugurated a refrigeration plant owned by Spanish company Almafrio in Quito Sueno in Haina on Tuesday, 3 April.
This is the Vima Group's first major investment in the country. The company, which has a 60-year track record in Spain, has refrigerated installations in Asia, America and Europe.
The Almafrio building covers an area of 8,000m2 with 50,000m3 being used for refrigeration. It was built at a cost of over RD$500 million.
Vima Group president Victor Moro Suarez said that the warehouse had space for storing more than 700 different products including meat, sausages, vegetables and seafood at a temperature of 24 degrees below zero. This means that the products could travel to any part of the country in a perfectly refrigerated state.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Manuel Garcia Arevalo highlighted the Vima Group's contributions and spoke of the company's outstanding track record in food conservation, especially in their fishing fleet at sea.
The ministers of Interior and Police Jose Ramon Fadul and Public Works, Victor Diaz Rua were also present.
