Hector Cabral, who pleaded guilty in October to unauthorized practice of medicine in the United States, has been sentenced to 250 hours of community service in his native Dominican Republic.
Cabral, 52, is Dominican and licensed to practice plastic surgery in the Dominican Republic, but not in the US. He could not be prosecuted further as the procedures were carried out in the DR.
Under a deal struck with the New York State Attorney General's office, and finalized yesterday by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Laura Ward, he is to be deported to the Dominican Republic to carry out his community service, and cannot return to the US for three years. He was ordered to pay US$23,000 in compensation to his seven victims.
