The Emergency Operations Center (COE) says it has reports of 38 deaths from 2pm on Thursday, 5 April to 8pm on Sunday, 8 April. The total is eight higher than in 2011. 31 people were killed in traffic accidents involving 687 persons, four drowned, and three died due to excess alcohol consumption, of 264 attended. Of those who died, 19 were motorcycle drivers. The COE director said that two of the drownings occurred in separate events in private clubs in Santiago. 35 persons received medical attentions for food poisoning.
Over the holiday, according to the preliminary report on the long weekend holiday, 986 received assistance by emergency services, up 40% compared to last year's 668.
