Easter vacation travelers driving along the country's main highways met with large groups of PLD and PRD supporters lining the roads on Sunday, causing major bottlenecks. The PLD and PRD campaigners on both sides of the highways turned the return of vacationers to the city "hell", reported El Dia. Dominicans reacted with collective indignation on the social networks, conveyed via thousands of Tweets that went back and forth, warning about the campaign points.

Traffic obstructions were reported on the 6 November, Samana highway exit, Puerto Plata exit, La Vega, Santiago, La Romana, Navarrete and San Francisco de Macoris and Jarabacoa roads. One Tweeter, Ana Paula Gomez said she counted 13 campaign stops between Bonao and Santo Domingo. El Dia says the campaign obstructions on Sunday occurred despite the leading parties campaign directors having promised to give Dominicans respite from political campaigns over the Easter holiday.

El Caribe reports that this year commuters began the return to the cities earlier than usual. It says that nevertheless, commuters were affected by torrential rains on Sunday afternoon.

The newspaper reports that COE volunteers used flags to urge drivers to exercise caution, but they were bombarded by political campaigning activity on the Duarte, Las Americas and 6 Noviembre highways.

Meanwhile, Listin Diario reports that on Sunday, 8 April, Danilo Medina returned from a tour lasting several days in New York City, and Hipolito Mejia also concluded his US tour, including Miami and New York and returned from New York to Santiago yesterday.
