Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, 10 April, a fire destroyed Fibras International, an export and cardboard recycling business near the El Torito barrio on Hermanas Mirabal Avenue in Villa Mella.
According to Jazmin Lluberes, a company executive, the fire started at 5:30pm. The Santo Domingo North fire brigade could not cope with the fire, as they did not have enough water trucks, so they asked for help from the National District brigade that sent one vehicle nearly two hours later, with only a few firefighters to deal with the raging blaze.
Listin Diario reports that the Santo Domingo North fire crew was unable to pinpoint the cause of the blaze despite an exhaustive investigation, and that the firefighters' efforts were concentrated on preventing the fire from spreading to the neighboring Banco Popular premises and a gas sales business.
