The Ministry of Public Works has announced the closure of the overpass at the intersection of Duarte Highway and Avenida Monumental in Santo Domingo in order to put the finishing touches on the project. The ministry said that this included painting and the installation of the guardrails and drainage covers. The ministry will also install the grandstand that will be used to inaugurate the overpass that is part of the Duarte Corridor project. The overpass will be closed from 8am on Friday, 13 April to Wednesday, 18 April. The six-lane structure is designed to ease traffic flow in and out of Santo Domingo. The Av. Monumental overpass is 530 meters long with six lanes, three in each direction. The Ministry of Public Works announced it would again allow the return at the Manoguayabo Overpass intersection. The two overpasses, part of the Duarte Corridor, are under construction by Brazilian firm Odebrecht.
The Duarte Corridor is made up of the overpasses at Jose Nunez de Caceres with JF Kennedy avenues, Fernando Defillo with Kennedy, Jose Ortega y Gasset with 27 de Febrero, and Av. Charles de Gaulle with San Isidro Highway. The underpasses are at the intersections of 27 Febrero with Carmen Mendoza de Cornielle and Fernando Defillo, and at Jose Nunez de Caceres and the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) tunnel.
