The presidential debate organized by the National Young Entrepreneurs Association (ANJE) between candidates Hipolito Mejia and Danilo Medina might not take place after all. ANJE is reporting difficulties with both parties' technical teams. The debate, which was originally planned for Tuesday, 17 April, has now been postponed until 3 May.

Former President Hipolito Mejia's team opposes the change. "The 18 days of May are already committed on our agenda. We do not improvise and we told them about this a long time ago," said Mejia's spokesman Hector Guzman, referring to ANJE. He said that they had agreed to the tentative dates of 17 and 25 April.

Guzman said that if there is no agreement, the candidates could make their preferences known in the traditional dialogue organized by the Corripio Group. "We are preparing for the Corripio Group debate. This is the commitment on the candidate's agenda for 25 April," he said.

From the Medina camp, external sector coordinator Ruben Bichara told Diario Libre that it was true that both parties' teams have met and tried to define some aspects of the debate. He said that officially he has not received any communication of any change or suspension for the organization of the event, which was originally set for Tuesday, 17 April. The PLD commissioners for the coordination of the debate are Gustavo Montalvo, Temistocles Montas and Francisco Javier Garcia.
